Barakah Unit 4

Barakah plant operator, Nawah Energy Company, informs that on Friday 28th July 2023 the on-site Barakah fire protection teams were deployed per plant protocol to extinguish an electrical fire in a contained location in the Turbine Generator Building of Unit 4; a non-operating unit that is yet to receive approval to load fuel and commence operations.
No injuries were reported, with no harm to those based at the plant or to the environment.
In alignment to the highest standards of safety and transparency, the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) and local authorities were informed, and updates provided throughout. A team of experts will now undertake an assessment to determine the cause, in addition to any impact to the commissioning process.
The three operating units at Barakah continue to power the UAE with clean electricity and are in stable mode, powering at 100% capacity to the UAE grid.
