Nawah Energy Company, the operations and maintenance subsidiary of the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), is pleased to confirm that the specially trained Fuel Handling team at Barakah has commenced loading the first nuclear fuel assemblies into the reactor of Unit 2 of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, the first step in the process towards gradually beginning operations and the generation of clean electricity.
This activitiy follows Nawah’s receipt of the Operating License for Unit 2 from the UAE’s independent nuclear regulator, the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR).
The diverse team of experts at Barakah is following strict safety guidelines and international best practices in loading fuel into the reactor of Unit 2. The same process was successfully completed at Unit 1 in early 2020, marking a year of safe operations and clean electricity generation at the Barakah plant.
